With the influx of players the JSD Cubs program was increased to 2 teams for the season, the intermediate B team added a number of new players and the intermediate A division team moved into the Elite division with the reintroduction of Canadian National Team players into the league.

We also were very proud to see our very own Rod Crane be named to the national team for the first time after years of hard work with our club. We’re very proud of how far Rod has come and will continue to go.

The season began with all 4 teams participating in the 10th annual Cruiser Cup, what a great way to start the season with a tournament. The JSD Cubs teams took on some stiff competition, including a team from Russia. Both Cubs teams did not advance to the playoff round, but they played great, setting the tone for a great season to come. The Intermediate team played amazing for their first time on the ice together with a number of new players coming over from the Simcoe JSD program. They finished 3rd in their pool but lost a heartbreaker to Buffalo in the quarter-final. The Elite team played with a very short bench but made it through to the finals where they lost a close game to arch-rival Buffalo Sabres.

Moving onto the regular season where it proved to be quite successful on all fronts, the Cubs 1 & Cubs 2 teams both made the playoffs with Cubs 1 falling to the eventual JSD Champions Buffalo Sabres in the quarter-final round and Cubs 2 losing to Buffalo in the semi-finals.

The Intermediate team had a number of new faces this year moving up from JSD the year before. They had an excellent season finishing with a record of 6-2-2, qualifying for the A division playoffs as the #5 Seed. They traveled to Windsor with a very depleted squad battling tremendously hard but falling to the Ice Bullets. It was a great season, especially with 4 new players moving up from a JSD division the year before.

The Elite Team’s season was interesting, the Bears placed first in the regular season earning a bye to the finals where they took on arch-rival Buffalo. The Bears claimed their first Elite division championship, after being denied in 2 previous finals. Congrats to our Champs.

At our end of year AGM, our long time secretary and coach Chantelle Maurice stepped down of almost 10 years of service to the club. We want to thank her again for everything she has done for the Club and we will miss her positive attitude and permanent smile that she brought to the club and everything she did. An election was held for the new secretary position and we are very happy to have Darren Cunliffe join the executive in the secretary role. Darren was previously the president of the Simcoe Sliders as well as a former executive member of the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association.

We are looking forward to next season, and have our 6th annual golf tournament as part of our fundraising campaign coming up on August 17th, 2019 at Innisbrook Golf & Counrty Club 6th Annual Bears Golf Classic
